Pottery Tutor– Temporary – 3-6 hours pw (evenings) – Ware – £31.01 per hour  

Herts Resourcing Group is pleased to be recruiting on behalf of HRC for a passionate and creative Pottery Tutor to join the Creative Arts & Industries department at the Ware Campus. 

This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery and growth of outstanding adult education within a thriving Further Education environment. The successful candidate will deliver engaging evening pottery classes for adult learners, helping them develop practical ceramic skills, creative confidence, and personal expression within a supportive and inclusive setting. 

About the Role 

Based at the Ware Campus, you will work closely with the Curriculum Area Manager for Art & Design and the Department Admin/Adult Courses & FCR Coordinator to deliver high-quality adult evening provision. 

You will teach pottery sessions on either Tuesday or Thursday evenings between 6:00pm – 9:00pm. 

The course will commence in September 2027 and will run in 5-week blocks, repeating each half term throughout the 2026/27 academic year. 

The role will involve guiding learners through the full ceramic process, from making and glazing through to kiln firing, while promoting safe and effective studio practice. 

Key Responsibilities 

Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and well-structured pottery sessions for adult evening learners  

Teach a range of ceramic techniques including hand building, glazing, surface decoration, and wheel throwing where applicable  

Support learners of mixed abilities, encouraging creativity, confidence, and individual progression  

Safely manage and operate the on-site kiln, including loading, firing schedules, and post-firing processes  

Maintain a safe, clean, and organised workshop environment in line with health and safety requirements  

Prepare and maintain materials, tools, equipment, and specialist resources  

Order, manage, and issue specialist equipment and materials in line with departmental budgets and sustainable practices  

Monitor learner attendance, engagement, and progress, completing required documentation where necessary  

Provide demonstrations, practical guidance, and constructive feedback to support learner development  

Participate in CPD activities including Safeguarding, Prevent, GDPR, and ongoing creative practice development  

Person Specification 

Essential 

Level 3 qualification in Art & Design or a related specialism  

Level 2 qualification in English and Maths  

Practical experience in ceramics and pottery, including hand building and glazing techniques  

Knowledge of the full ceramic process including preparation, glazing, and kiln firing  

Experience working safely within a workshop or studio environment  

Ability to deliver engaging sessions to mixed-ability adult learners  

Strong communication and practical demonstration skills  

Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusive teaching practices  

Availability to teach evening classes on either Tuesday or Thursday from 6:00pm – 9:00pm  

Desirable 

Higher qualification in Art & Design or related subject  

Teaching qualification  

Health & Safety qualification  

Experience within Further Education or adult education  

Experience of wheel throwing and advanced surface decoration techniques  

Experience independently managing kiln firings  

Familiarity with FE learner progress monitoring and record keeping

You will be approachable, organised, and enthusiastic about supporting adult learners in a relaxed and creative environment. You will have the ability to motivate and inspire learners while maintaining high standards of health and safety and workshop practice. 

The successful candidate will have to complete the HRG Compliance Process, which is  

  • In person ID and Proof of Address verification appointment at Ware/Broxbourne Campus 
  • Enhanced DBS application – administrated by HRG but at a cost of £65.20 (unless you already hold an enhanced DBS on the update service) 
  • 2 years of professional/character references taken and verified 
  • Several Online Training Modules sent out to you as stipulated by HRC
